Lactate Threshold Testing at the Peak Performance Hub

At Peak Fitness Coaching’s Peak Performance Hub, our lactate threshold testing provides athletes with critical insights into their physiological performance and training needs.

The lactate threshold marks the intensity at which lactic acid begins to accumulate in the bloodstream, signalling a shift from primarily aerobic to anaerobic energy production. It is a key predictor of endurance performance and varies significantly between individuals.

By accurately identifying your lactate threshold through our laboratory-based testing, we can define your precise training zones and intensity targets. This allows you and your coach to build more innovative, personalised training programs to improve endurance, enhance performance, and delay fatigue.

As your fitness evolves, your lactate threshold will too. Regular testing enables us to scientifically track progress, adjust training variables at the right times, and optimise your performance ahead of key competitions.

For serious endurance athletes, from runners to cyclists and triathletes, lactate threshold profiling is an essential tool. It unlocks higher levels of performance and ensures you reach your full potential with confidence.

Lactate Threshold Testing starting from £110

Lactate Threshold Testing

Cost: £110 / £155* (*including sports massage)

Duration: 1 – 1.5 hours (*2 hours)

What you get: Determination of lactate threshold 1, Determination of lactate threshold 2, along with Individualised heart rate training zones based on blood lactate profile. *A 45-minute recovery sports massage post testing session.

Test details: This test is usually conducted on a treadmill or bike, but it can be adapted to suit most endurance athletes.

When you arrive at the performance hub, we will explain the test in full detail. You will then be required to complete a health history and consent form and have a brief discussion about your current training regime.

We will take a resting capillary blood sample from a fingertip before you complete a brief warm-up. The test begins with you exercising at a low intensity (based on your fitness) for 3 minutes. At the end of these 3 minutes, we will assess the blood lactate concentration, heart rate, and rate of perceived exertion before increasing the intensity of the exercise for another 3 minutes. We repeat this process for some time, until you surpass your lactate threshold. When this occurs, the test is terminated.

Following a cool down, your data will be processed and fed back to you with plenty of time for you to ask questions.

Combine your lactate profiling test with a sports massage for a complete performance and recovery session. After completing your test, you’ll move to the Peak Recovery Zone for a targeted sports massage while we process your results, ensuring your session ends with full feedback, recovery, and actionable insights.
